7 Tips for Healthy Weight Loss
There are a lot of different schools of thought regarding healthy weight loss. I’m sure you’ve heard of low card, no carb, high protein, low protein diets and such. Do we know which is better? I’m really looking for something that is just plain simple and easy to incorporate into my daily diet without being too complicated and time consuming.
I have found that making some simple changes to diet and lifestyle can have a very positive affect on weight loss and overall health. These changes can be easy to make, may even save you time, and can really improve your health as well as maintaining a healthy weight.
7 Tips for healthy weight loss:
- Drink plenty of water – Water is essential for bodily functions. Most people are dehydrated to some degree due to what they eat and drink deplete the body of water and essential nutrients, like drinking to much caffeinated beverages and eating high sodium foods.
- Eat smaller meals more often – By eating smaller portions, you give the body less to digest and increases its metabolism to burn calories more efficiently. When you eat 2 or 3 meals a day, your metabolism slows down and food is converted into fat and is stored.
- Avoid foods high in saturated fat and high in sodium – Processed foods which contain unhealthy fats and salt are contributors to cardiovascular disease, hardening of the arteries, hypertension, and many other harmful conditions and should be avoided.
- Eat whole grains – Whole grains are grains in which all of the natural grain is used with all the nutritional value present. Refined grains such as cakes, cookies, doughnuts, and breads are made from grains where the nutrients have been removed.
- Exercise – Just walking a half hour a day will improve blood circulation, flexibility, will burn stored fat and build muscle. Walking is also associated with reducing the risks of acquiring heart disease, diabetes, some cancers, osteoporosis and stroke.
- Eat more fresh fruits and vegetables – Daily intake of fresh fruits and vegetables provide many important vitamins, minerals, and immunity boosting properties. Also fiber for good digestion.
- Get plenty of sleep – A very important need, but often sacrificed, sleep is essential for the body. Deep sleep allows the body to rejuvenate and repair at the cellular level where the disease fighting properties of the body begin. People who have poor sleep and eating habits are more likely to become over weight and develop chronic health conditions.
By making these small changes in your diet and lifestyle, you will not only start to lose weight, but you will also notice you have more energy, be able to focus more, you will sleep better, and not feel so run down or sluggish.
